Little Niggles

Oops – Nearly forgot about you!! But then I remembered. UFLive saw a bit of an ‘outage’ over the past weekend. Due to the nature of the project that we set up we have had to do a lot ourselves. When we began we talked at get length on the topic of hosting! Naturally we needed somewhere to host UFLive itself, but we also needed somewhere to put the websites – both UFLive.com and Netsportssoftware.com. We looked at several options but given that we had no money behind us, this was something we needed to take care of ourselves. So over the weekend our web server went offline. Unfortunately – as it isn’t managed by a company – we had to manually restart the server – which couldn’t be done immediately. It is the little things like this which make it a challenge. But they all add to the fun and games. None of us have been involved in a project like this before so we are learning all the time, and everytime we come across a little niggle like this we can look to put steps in place so that the next time we can react quicker – and that’s just what we did!! Every day is a school day in at UFLive!

server down

Rest assured that once the game is up and running (on its own managed servers), and making a few pounds, we will be able to put aside some money to ensure such niggles are a thing of the past.

  1. Hard to put an accurate timeframe on it Rob – its no secret we hoped to be further on than we currently are. I would love to see the alpha testers in this side of Christmas – and I personally feel that’s achievable (although that is not a commitment :-)). The first few days/weeks of Alpha will give us a much better frame of reference to assign and commit to timelines.

  2. Have you ever thought of possibly getting someone from the community to look after that side of things? I know two or three of us on their who work with things such as this in our day to day lives.
